Reduction!

Each type of weapon in the game has different strength against the types of armor (some armors don't work at 100% when being hit with certain weapon). This means that the armors have a reduction to the different types of weapons::

Laser --> Light = 25% reduction
Laser --> Normal = 100% reduction
Laser --> Heavy = 10% reduction
Laser --> Solid = 100% reduction
Ion --> Light = 100% reduction
Ion --> Normal = 35% reduction
Ion --> Heavy = 20% reduction
Ion --> Solid = 15% reduction
Plasma --> Light = 25% reduction
Plasma --> Normal = 30% reduction
Plasma --> Heavy = 100% reduction
Plasma --> Solid = 20% reduction

so if i attack with scouts ( = laser weapon) a Death star ( solid armor)

Laser --> Solid = 100% reduction ----------------> an attack will be reduced of 100%!!

so scout attack = Power: 350

350 -100 %( = 350) = 0
so the attack of the scout is 0???????????????????????????????????

There's an example - watch it carefully .

~ Example:
If you have one Scout ship with one level upgrade in the Factory and you have level 5 "Weaponry systems", level 4 "Laser Systems" and level 6 "Plasma Systems", this is what happens:

1 Scount has 350 strength + 5% added from the level 1 of Factory upgrade = 368. We also add 45% total (25% from level 5 "Weaponry systems", 5% per level and 20% for the level 4 "Laser Systems" 5% per level and 0% from level 6 of "Plasma Systems", because the Scout doesn't use Plasma weapon) = 534 (rounded).

Death stars have 18% solid armor. 100% reduction means they still have 18% armor /not the attack is reduced - the bonus is/ in this battle /Scouts VS DS/. Clear now ? )
