The improvements in the Factory will affect the ship's structure (the life of the ship), while the armor percentages will increase depending on the level of researches "Shields" and "Ship Armor". All ships using Light or Normal armor will gain 5% bonus from each level of "Ship Armor" research, and ships using Heavy and Solid armor will gain 5% bonus from each level of "Shields" research.

I just read it again and now i understand that the armor percentages will increase on your research.
This will mean that if you attack a fully upgraded deathstar with ion cannons the following happens.
The solid armor upgrades on shields, you can upgrade it 17 times, witch gives it a 85% bonus on the 25%
So the actual calculation goes over 100% to a 110% reduction to the damage from other ships...
If you read on the link above you will see in the calculations that the beam reduction is a % from the armor reduction that will be taken off the armor reduction, what gives a laser to sollid still a 100% damage because the reduction is 100%
Reduction!
Each type of weapon in the game has different strength against the types of armor (some armors don't work at 100% when being hit with certain weapon). This means that the armors have a reduction to the different types of weapons::
Laser --> Light = 25% reduction
Laser --> Normal = 100% reduction
Laser --> Heavy = 10% reduction
Laser --> Solid = 100% reduction
Ion --> Light = 100% reduction
Ion --> Normal = 35% reduction
Ion --> Heavy = 20% reduction
Ion --> Solid = 15% reduction
Plasma --> Light = 25% reduction
Plasma --> Normal = 30% reduction
Plasma --> Heavy = 100% reduction
Plasma --> Solid = 20% reduction
So if we calculate a battle between two deathstars with full armor / shield upgrades this is what happens,
attack val deathstar : 1.000.000 damage
armor val deathstar: 25% + 17*5 (shield upg) = 110%
Ion to solid reduction : 15%
To simplify the formula
Battle attack = attack val - (attack val*armor val) +(attack val * armor val * beam reduction)
(to simplify the formula, the beam reduction is a % of the armor value that goes of the armor value, so you can count it extra in the attack, the armor val is a negative val, the beam reduction a positive val)
so the outcome of the formula will be:
attack deathstar = 1.000.000 -1.1 million + 165000
what makes the damage...
1.000.000 -1.100.000 + 165.000 = 65.000 damage.
From the 1mill attack damage a deathstar could do only 65.000 damage on the other deathstar.
if you want a deathstar dead you need to come with at least 12 times more to win in a 12 round battle.
