Quick question:

It seems that each colony I make has slightly less fields than the previous one, is this correct? I read somewhere that if you build your colony towards the 15th space on a solar system you get more fields, but my last colony was on the 15th space and only had just over 120 fields. Any advice on starting with the most fields for new colonies? Can you abandon a coloy that you don't like?

You can delete a colony through the Options menu in the upper corner. The first planet you get is always a bit better than the standard colony. After that it is all a question of chance.

Any planet, no matter which slot, has an equal random chance of getting a field size? Slot position has no effect?
Slot position affects too. If you are closer to the sun (planet slots : 1,2,3) must have less number of fields then the others and 15 must have the most ... Though you could be on Planet spot number 1 and have more fields than the 15-th planet in the solar system - it really is a matter of chance !
