Do the members of the alliance get notified of another members attack so they can counter-attack and/or help defend? Are there shared resources? What does an alliance add to the game other than just grouping people together in name alone?

basicly there are not much advantages, being offert now. Being a general (a payed extra/feature alowing you some nice stuff), you can see other people's status (as what are they building, what are they producing, current resources, fleet and defence on the planet). You can also send a mass message to all alliance members . Your alliance can build alliances, NAPs and declare war to other aliances. Anyway there are no restrictions not to attack/spy people in your alliance and/or the alliances you have a relationship with. There is also no benefit declaring a war to other alliances. As far as i know, there are several ideas, beeing worked at, to improve the game's diplomacy, but its all still in development. The last thing i can remember about aliances is, that there is an alliance ladder, which shows how good is your alliance going.

Shortly, there is not much diplomacy regarding alliances yet. Its just a nice possibility having fun with your friends together in the game.

Riffle said some words, some of them are true some are not.

If you have NAP (non aggression pact) with other team, you cant attack its members.

Mass messages are available for all Generals(the team rank not the extra that you buy) and Diplomats in the team.

The diplomacy is quite important in the game but it is connected mostly with your leader ability to determine the exact team strategy.
