Question about speeds...

I know this thread is old but I've wondered how the speed research works so I could setup a spreadsheet to figure my flight times and I think I have the correct answer.

If you are interested try this formula. I put this into my spreadsheet and the numbers matched what fleet page told me the speed was.

FS= Full Speed
BS= Base Speed

J=Jet Engines 10% added to base speed
I=Impulse Systems 20% added to base speed
H=Hyperspeed Engines 10% added to base speed
U=Ultraspeed 20% added to base speed


FS=BS*(((1+(J*0.1))*(1+(I*0.2)))*(1+(H*0.1)))*(1+(U*0.2))

I afforded myself to correct you ... The Impulse, Hyperspeed and Ultraspeed engines give respectively [20%,10%,20%] bonus which is also added on the base speed not "global"!

I know the technics page says that all of the research add to base speed, but the numbers don't add up when you only add them to base speed.

The base speed for a cargoship is 11000 and if every research is added to the base speed it won't add up to the speed the fleet page gives you.

Did you try the formula with your research levels?

My levels right now are below and if I plug these numbers into my formula it works out to what the fleet page tells me the speed is. The fleet page has my cargoship speed at 230384 but yet if I only add the research levels to the base speed I get a speed of 62700

Jet 10
Impulse 9
Hyperspeed 7
Ultra Speed 6

I don't really get your point with all the things that the "fleet page gives you" ... All fleets are flying with the speed of the most slow ship in the fleet! No matter the speed of the other ships ... If you attach a Colony ship to a fleet of Cargos - they will move with the speed of the Colony ship ... That is what I understood you were trying to figure out ...

P.S. Plus ... The Cargo ship is not the best example to explain this rule because it receives speed bonuses from developping the Energy systems ... So try with other kind of ships

I know that your fleet will move at the speed of your slowest ship that you are sending. My cargoship example only refers to cargoships being sent. I could have said Guardians or Field Fighters or any other ship from my fleet.

You never said if you tried the formula based on your research levels. I can only give you my numbers and so far for every upgrade it has given me the right speed for each ship in my fleet.

When I send out a fleet of Guardians the speed bulfleet gives me is the same speed number my formula gave me, and it will do this for any type of ship in my fleet even the cargoships even though you tell me the Energy systems will add a bonus onto the cargoships. I don't know where it tells you that because I have never found that. The energy systems research will decrease your fleets gas useage, but my formula works for me without having the energy systems in there.

I started out to find this speed formula to satisfy my interest in how the speed was calculated. I am just sharing my results and looking for someone to enter their research levels into the formula and tell me if it works for them like it did for me.

Soo I will take the recycler with base speed 3500.
