grave robber написа:QUOTE (grave robber @ Jan 13 2009, 09:38) Could the use of INTERNET SLANG end up in you being punished ?

ANSWER YES

I have been punished for the use of the internet slang "LMAO"

At first i thought it was some kind of eastern europe joke, but as it turns out, no.

"You are punished for bad behavior.
You account will be automatically unlocked in 30 minutes after the end of the punishment.
You can see the table with punished players to see what is the reason."

The problem here is Bulfleets LACK OF ENGLISH SPEAKING MODERATORS. The use of the word which seems to have upset bulfleet operstors is A--. The use of that word used in a derogatory manner as in " I think that you are an A-- " I agree is worth punishment.

But the use of that word, which is a commonly used abreviation, a frequently used term in text, email and chat rooms! needs to be taken in context. If that word is NOT taken in context, Bulfleet now has a moral duty to provide a comprehsive list of words that are NOT acceptable in English, and any other language that a player uses.

Definition from Wiktionary

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/LMAO

Initialism

LMAO

1. (Internet slang) Laughing my a-- (ar-e) off; used to indicate great amusement, usually over exaggerated, at something (usually from an online source eg discussion group, or instant message).

[edit] See also

* LOL
* ROFL
* ROFLMAO

So every english speaking player should be warned that normal everyday INTERNET SLANG, acceptable in almost every other aspect of the INTERNET, is not acceptable, and IS punnishable here in Bulfleet.

Perhaps someone from Bulfleet could contact me, and i could give them some insight into the way that English speaking players use the language.

GRAVE ROBBER

Wow!!

LMAO is frequently used on every Forum and Chat Room, and by every mobile phone text contact and email contact I have ever known.

This retort is frequently used when the sender finds something funny!!

LMAO is not an insult, not does it constitute bad behaviour, under any circumstances!!

No ban should have been imposed and any ban that was imposed erroneously, should be lifted immediately!

I am not LMAO!!

This appears to be a display of the lack of language skills by the Moderator concerned.

The punishments are implied not just by point of view of moderators, but by point of view of players. If I see report sent by someone I always think if the reporter is related to the text itself in some way, why this is reported at first?
For example I will not punish for "you are black", but if there is some relation between someone's skin color and the message, then I could punish for such message.
Any way... Are you sure that you are punished for messaging someone the word you think you are punished for? The welcome message is one for all punishments. Tell me your user name and universe and I will check why and who set the punishment.

The game is international and not every one can understand the slang. So do not use slang, then no one will report it and no punishment will take place. As I've been told your account would be free to play in 1 hour. So there is no need to make any change. Have a nice day.

I am translating as requested:

Код: Избери всички

The whole message is :
 Laughing My Ass Off
LMAO

If this is is rude or not, it is not my problem. It contains uncensored word and this is why he was punished. The punishment will not be repealed.

*can someone translate my response.

I can now see the problem, and it is language based.

The answer here must be to delete any messages you receive from players that are not fluent in your own language.

If the 'rules' are applied with a total lack of understanding of the meaning of the word, words or phrase used; it is better not to reply at all!

Otherwise some else could make an ass of themselves!!

Note for the Administrators, the term 'ass' in this context, in English, means to do or say something foolish; and is neither rude nor offensive!
