Spy probe question

Some of the time when I send a spy probe to spy at someone it just shows their metal, crystal gas and energy, and other times it shows their fleets as well

I tried sending a cargo ship to a active player where the probe didnt say anything about defences or ships, I mean, must be defenceless right? ^^

But my ship got terminated on arrival and the probe gave a report less than 1 minute before saying nothing about defences, I tried after the attack, also no indication about defences.

How do I get to know what there is on a target planet or not then? Sending the probe 1000 times?

You should consider the reports as incomplete if they doesn't include the following line:
Information about fleets/defenses:

In this case you have to send additional spy probes until you make sure there is no ships stationed or defense turrets.

youll see their ships and turrets if you have lvl 8 espionage or you might get it if you have 3 or more espionage than the person you are spying on.
