Battle and Navigation System (...and misc...)

What new things would you like to see in Bulfleet? Give input on other ideas!

First of all I would just like to that there is nothing wrong right now with the programming that I am about to address, but only that it could be enhanced for more realism.

Realism Problems
1.) Right now the battle schemes hierarchical(except bombers), this is to say:

a)vehicleType(a) beats vehicleType(b)
b)vehicleType(b) beats vehicleType©
c)vehicleType© beats vehicleType(d)

2.) Bombers are pretty much are unstoppable.

3.) Number of combating vehicles seem miniscual. i.e. 5 fighters attacking a planet or even 100.

4.)Travelling to my knowledge is 2D scroller style. Not even 2D top view style. (Meaning, when I browse through the galxy and system tab I get a feeling of Mario style travel. It can't really be explained in text but i'll show you with a simple alphabetical depiction.)

Right now say I am at letter a, the first system in G1 or galaxy 1. If I want to travel to G4:4 I have to travel through all of the other galaxies and all of that distance to get to there.

5.)Tactical strikes aren't avaible,(Be aware that I am a realitively new member to BulFleet and I may be mistaken.) such as blockade, transmission jamming, planetary bombardment, ground force invasion, ect.. Strikes that would proove very valuable in combat aren't available.

6.)Home worlds can't fall to the enemy, and there is no abiltity to choose if you want to conquer these planets attack them, or defeat them, but you can't even demand taxation from them instead of making your own buildings and wasting money by attacking them.

7.) Planet limits are 5? To me, if I am a conquerer, im not going to stop at destroying Persia, Mongolia, Rome, African tribes, and Vikings, no I'm going to attack nomadic lands, english territories, ect.

8.)Ground units aren't available.

9.) The user manual/ guide isn't really helpful. It outlines some stuff, but it doesn't explain a lot.

10.)Vehicle class ships are extremely off.

11.) Having the death star is kinda cheesy and shows lack of imagination.

12.) One building of each type on a planet?

Fixes

1.) Introduce some sort of food chain/cycle style. (Note in the folowing I believe bombers should be fighter class not battle ship, and that I believe that the ship classes should be redesigned.)

FIGHTERS have a special bonus against SCOUTS and BOMBERS.
BOMBERS have a special bonus against BATTLESHIPS, DESTROYERS, STRUCTURES, and DEATH STARS.
CORVETTES(one that I believe should be introduced)have bonuses against FIGHTERS, BOMBERS, AND DESTROYERS
ect...

2.)First of all limit the bomber to a fighter class ship, labeling the current bomber as a bomber is an extreme mistake. It should be a battleship. It confuses the public when you call it a bomber. Space represents an ocean, in descriptions of space viewed from earth you'll get an analogy towards " a sea of stars" or an "oily blackness" both of which ships can sail on. So it is imperative that you keep the tradtional feel of naval combat. So fighters and bombers should have a more traditional chasis of a small one man or five man team.

3.)This is a simple fix. You could name the vehicles squads or battalions instead of single ships. It doesn't matter, but when you give the player a feeling that his hard earned metal is going towards a whole squad instead of a single ship, they start to feel like they are commanding an army instead of a single man. It also makes it more realistic when your talking about an empire that spans an entire planet. I'm not going to have an army 100 fighters big, no I am going to have battalions o figthers. This won't be needed for battle ships because they are fricin huge.

4.)Try designing a simple html table#, with the ability to click systems. But if not at least try designing it around a grid type mental image. Not that important but would be nice.

5.) Try putting some of these things in. These are obviosly a little bit harder to make but not impossible, these could be implemented in later versions but not needed now.

6.)This would be another hard one, but it would proove valuable to just take taxes instead of setting up buildings of your. I don't know if you can take planets but I have a feeling you can take colonies at least.
If you are able to take these colonies you should be able to take buildings that are already on the planet.

7.)I don't know your reasoning for this, mabybe for processing problems in the computer. but whatever the reason I think the public would like to know if not already stated. I f it is because the you fear the players owning many of the planets will become too powerful, this is a simple fix. If they have X many planets then give them a -% defence for the planets on the outer rims of there territory.

8.)It would be nice to put ground units in for easy planetary invasion.

9.) The guide is confussing unorganized and vauge. If you put this guide in wiki form lots of people would be able and willing to add and correct it.

10.) As of right now you do not have an accurate Ship class system. BattleShip Class 1 should be the best and they only go up to second class. However you could easily change it to something like Alpha Class Beta Class and Delta Class.

11.)If you have a Death Star it better destroy a planet, lol. But since it doesn't and the death star is not a original idea you should change the name and picture. Maybe change the name to Graviton disrupter station, or something like that. As for the picture and other pictures which you bought, (or didn't buy ;) ...) Get the public to submit models that they have made or modeled, do a little photoshop touch up and reward them with some resources.

12.)You should make the current building system like the research level system where you research the different levels of mining or what not and then you buy the actual buildings or "acreage" for the buildings just so it feels like you are actually a empire instead of a little town. Also you could label the Crystal and metal in cubc meters or tons and for the gas you could measure in kiloliters.

Now I know this may look like I think this game sucks and I am a pompus little prick, but it is actually the contrary. I care a lot about this game and I think it has a lot of potential to become the best undesputed free game out there. I just hope that the development team was a bunch of guys trying to make money that got together and threw something together that was way below their potential. I think that if you truely worked on it and put a few of those suggestions, a lot of which I know are not hard being a fellow programmer myself, this game good be 15 times better than it is now. Take a little bit more value in your game and you would be suprised at what type of game you would get. But you are doing a good job and I hope to see this game go farther than it already has. Sorry if some of the stuff I said should be implemented already is or has been, or if it has already been adressed.

PS If there is poor grammar or spellcheck errors, I am sorry. The thing was too dam long to make a complete intense spell check, lol. Also Sorry for making it so long.
