Hmm I don't know how to explain. Your suggestion is too complex., not bad or stupid, just complex.
Asteroids should appear only after 1000p for example of 10 000, what ever. You need a team to destroy it. What about if nobody can help u, what about when ur playing on ur own?
The planets are very expensive. You need to build structures. The colony ship is cheep, everything else costs money and lot of time. And if u frogot a fleet on the planet? Puffff disappeared. Lost in Space. Have you ever been atacked by Death Star? Do u know what pain is to loose a planet on which u spent almost 2 months playing to improve the income? Think about that !
I don't want to loose my planet only cause smb thinks it would be cool to have kamikadze asteroids.
By the way its a great lose when smd destroys a planet, but what even when no one attacks you ?

Aye it is just a idea, and looking at it now even more complex then first thought
What you said about what if your playing the game alone, well it would increase the need for people to chat and get to know each other
indeed in complex Idea and ya it would be painfull to lose a planet (tho you say 2 months to get a good planet up) hooah maybe some better micro mangement and not said in any disrespect

O ya i get ya completely in the sense of that it could be hard to code there aient a huge team of Dev's to put it in to action
indead all ideas should be put forward even if they just get left on a list and looked at a later date
Hell yeah, now I will be FORCED to build orbital junk to protect myself from the big scary A's. OK, I have built it, enough to shoot down an asteroid and nothing more. Now imagine that I am a top player. I fleetsave throughout the night since I like to sleep as well. Then my defense is still on my planet. Another player, another top player, sees the opportunity to destroy my planet using an asteroid that had appeared soon in my solar system (as TDO said, A's appear out of the blue). He shoots down my defense with a large number of attacks. And, hurray, my planet is destroyed, and, I forgot to mention, my fleet disappears (since I usually perform "attack" fleetsaves, which have to return to the planet of origin) Isn't that a lovely new feature?
Another aspect that I don't like is the fact that you will need new buildings and entirely new features in order to support a single aspect of the game. It's like making a new coat since you already have the buttons. It requires too much for no benefit (TDO).
Maybe the best way to implement it would be sth like the deathstar, but on a much lower scale, like 10 or even 100 times lower. You could have only a research that acts like the spy research. You perform a check against the number of fields (larger part of the planet taken- the larger the chance that an A will hit your buildings) and the points of the player (the lower threshold should be around 10K points, there is no point in scaring the beginners).
Example:
The more points you have, the larger the chance of the asteroid hitting you since more mass means more gravity, consequently the asteroid is more attracted to the planet. Then, the AA research check, dividing by the level, then multiplying this number by the percentage of the used fields.
Anti-asteroid level: 5 (10)
Points above the threshold: 1000
50% of the fields are used
The basic chance is 0.005%
1000*0.00005=0.05
0.05/10*0.5=0.0025
0.25% chance of an asteroid destroying anything on the planet. It is negligible chance now, but see what happens to a 1.01Mil player:
1 000 000*0.00005/10*0.5=2.5 whoa! 250% chance of hitting ya! You will certainly have to research some more AA (a hyperbolic curve for the levels would solve the problem, for example L1 gives a divider of 2, L2 a divider of 4.4, L3 7.26 and so on. The formula is L*2*1.1^L-1).
Then if you destroy an asteroid, the debris are automatically calculated with the standard debris formula using random destroyed structure numbers.
Now there, you have some kind of working solution.

Yup, nice calculations, but the idea is hmmmm no acceptable for me Its not about the exact formulas. The whole idea of loosing something without any actions from ur enemies side. Do u get it? We should not play against the game itself but against the other players in the game
asteroid good idea but try haveing a galactic defence already more powerful than everyone when we all start a new universe then when we start this can protect us until we reach certain points then we are on our own, it can be galactic trading centure as well computer can benefit play a better part, there will always be someone better than you better we increase our defences research new espionage quicker you can actually detect it longer distances asteroids that you cant detect etc, the game does need some new ships and defences a few extra building make it more interesting better to have more worrys than some one that started a week before you come on and get attacked all resoures takein and have them laff at you?
and a trade centre doesnt need mineing only rely on trade gives us more chance if we want to alliance and attack the trade centre if you are a war monger but remember it will be the same resoures not cheap ships wont be cheap swopping for better ships computer will get stronger take along time to be as powerful
