Bad enough that we have to pay to get more (dont mind paying for game stuff that LASTS my time in the game or a "No Ad cost" but paying for land in game is a bit much...anyways

Yep, you can guess approximately the planets fields. The first planets in the system have less fields but gain more energy from satellites. The planets on the next positions have more fields and gain less energy from satellites. Here are the exact numbers:
Position 1-6: 80-120 fields
Position 7-10: 100-180 fields
Position 11-15: 120-220 fields.
The exact fields count is randomly set when u colonize a planet.

And as you can see, there is some overlap, so a planet in orbits 1 through 6 could actually have more fields than a planet in orbits 7 through 10. What you can do is send your ship, and if you get the low end of the range, delete the planet and colonize again. Ok, so that's an extra 40-50k resources, but...
