Just a thought, transporting energy would be a good idea. It would work something like this:

You have the option to build a new ship, called something like Capacitor Ship, which is a ship with energy storing capabilities. Think Cargo or Megacargo Ship, but instead of Metal, Crystals, or gas, it would carry nothing but stored energy in its on-board capacitors. It would be subject to all the bonuses and limitations the other ships are.

A new research option called Capacitors, which upgrades the efficiency of the capacitors carried on the Capacitor Ship, the more efficient, the more energy they can store. There could be say, 15 Levels to the research, here's an example:

Lvl 1: 250 Energy storing capability.
Lvl 2: 500 Energy storing capability.
Lvl 3: 1000 Energy storing capability.
Lvl 4: 2000 Energy storing capability, etc, etc, or something similar.

That's all I can think of just now, suggestions and hints are more than welcome.

The Capacitors could be indestructable, and could be captured by any player from the co-ords they were destroyed on, provided they have another Capacitor ship to do it with. They could then add the amount of energy stored to their own balance. Or maybe a seperate energy balance that doesn't regenerate from the Solar Panels. i.e. You have 500, use 300, left with 200. Good idea?

I'm talking about transporting energy, not generating it. It would be useful for building structures when you don't quite have the energy available to do so.

I dont like the idea, it seems like it would make Graviton way too easy along with colonies being painfully cheap because they dont have to build Power Plants.

If the resources are balanced right it won't be unfair. Still I think there is no need for such ship since you obviously have to produce the energy somewhere. In order for your main colony to produce enough energy to support your other colonies you have to build satellites. Satellites fall first in combat if you have no fleet, AFAC, so in the later stage of the game sn might just send several ships just to crush your energy production. Moreover, there is really no difference wether you build the satellites on your main colony or your other colonies. If your solar panels already don't pay off, you would have reached a level of development at which satellites will no be prohibitive.

Of course, there could be a limit to how much you could put in this new account. Or a limit imposed on what you could spend it on, i.e. no spending on Graviton research for instance. In fact, you could impose a limit to make sure it's not used for research at all, and is merely used for buildings instead.

If you mean new account then that is pushing o.O
If you mean new planet... then it would be a useless thing to do because your SP and sats make enough energy.
