Can I send my Recyclers earlier(because they are much slower then Battle ships), so they could be there only a few minutes after I attack?

Today 18.01.2009. I had 14 Guard. and 72 Chargoships. I won the battle and these are left. Out of the blue in 17 h a have only 50 Chargoships???? There was no attack on me. I've seen no attack reports.
What is happening?
